What Dia does
Dia Reader is a browser extension that lets you highlight text on any web page and instantly look
up what it means — definitions, context, and plain-language explanations. It runs on an online
service we operate; you do not need to provide any keys.
Data we process
- Account. If you sign in, we store your email address and verification
history to recognise you. Sign-in uses a one-time emailed code; we do not store passwords.
- The text you look up. When you request a lookup, the highlighted text and
your request are sent to our backend, which forwards them to a third-party text-processing
provider (OpenRouter) to produce your explanation. We log usage volume and cost per request for
billing and capacity planning. We do not sell your data.
- Usage counts. Per-device and per-account counters enforce the free-lookup
limit and your plan.
- Analytics. We use Mixpanel for anonymous product-usage events (e.g. app
opened, lookup requested, explanation shown). These contain counts, sizes, and timings only —
never your highlighted text or the explanations shown.
- Payments. Billing is handled by Paddle, our payment processor and merchant
of record. Card details are entered on Paddle's checkout and are never seen or stored by us.
Where data goes
- Our backend (hosted by us) — receives the text you look up and account/usage data.
- OpenRouter — produces the text explanation.
- Resend — sends your sign-in code email.
- Mixpanel — anonymous usage events.
- Paddle — processes payments.
Your choices
You can use Dia without signing in until your free lookups are used up. You can sign out at any
time from the side panel, which clears your session. To request account or data deletion, contact
